MY SCREENING ROOM
How secure is the Screening Room?
The Cinando Screening Room is an online, dedicated and secure place
to upload, screen and share your films and is completey free. Access to Cinando is restricted to film industry professionals. The Cinando
team regularly updates the Cinando database and pays particular attention to
the eligibility criteria of its members. When you choose to screen a film on
Cinando, you keep total control of it. You are able to manage your viewing
rights and therefore choose who will be able to watch your films among the Cinando
community: distributors, sales agents, festivals, all Cinando members, or access
by request only.
You can also restrict the access to more precise targets:
- a geotarget restricts access to companies based in the
territories where your film has not already been sold
- a personal target allows you to grant access to your film to a
customized list of companies
You will also be able to hide your film at any time if necessary
and to send personal invitations, even to non-Cinando members.
But that's not all! To ensure added security,
a film is watermarked with the name of
the person watching and an ID number is automatically generated by Cinando. Thanks
to this system, you can keep track the viewers and begin to work out deals with
interested companies.
How do I upload a film to the online Screening Room?
Here is the step-by-step process to use the Cinando online Screening Room:
-
1. Select one of your films (or create it) in My profile, then Line-up tabs.
Then open the 'upload manager' by clicking on the green button.
A pop-up window should open.
Choose the "Full
movie" tab and follow the instructions.
Please
remember that you must upload an image (poster or film
still and give basic information about the
film (duration, language...) prior to being able to upload the film.
If the box "Select a
file" does not appear, you will need to download and install Java, which
you can get by clicking
here. If you need help with installing Java, view the instructions on
their website. If you still encounter problems, you may need to enable Java in
your web browser.
Use a digital file of the film, with the proper subtitles (English is recommended).
If you only have a DVD, first you must convert it -- quick
and easy with these instructions.
Technical requirements:
- Accepted formats: mp[e]g, avi,
vob, mov, mp4 - file size < 5 GB
- Encoding: resolution
720x480 or better - bitrate > 2MBit/s - 48kHz sound AC-3 / AAC / FLAC / MP2
(> 128 kBit/s)
- Video Codecs:
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC / MJPEG / MPEG-1 / MPEG-2 / QuickTime Graphics
- Multiplexed files only
(audio and video in one file) - no anamorphic material. (file has
to be 4:3 or 16:9 originally).
For best encoding results we recommend: .mp(e)g file format with MPEG 2
video codec or H.264/MPEG-4 codec for best quality.
2. Choose the viewing rights

When
uploading, you will have to choose your viewing rights settings.
You will be then able to modify
this choice by clicking on "Manage rights and invitations" in the film page.
Choose to whom you grant viewing
rights to your film:
Distributors, Sales agents,
Festivals: grants access to
these categories. Eligibility of these companies is checked by the Cinando
team.
All Cinando members: grants access to all Cinando users.
You
can filter these companies by country and restrict access only to countries
where the film is available (based on the countries you select as available by
updating the film page).
One of my lists: Choose a previously created list of people to
whom you would like to grant viewing rights. Note that this option does not
automatically send invitations to buyers: they will see that the film is
available but will not receive an automatic notification.
Further details:
-
Authorize requests: Select this box to allow users without viewing rights see that
you have uploaded a film and so they can request to see it. Otherwise, only
users with viewing rights can see that you have uploaded a film. This option
provides users with the knowledge that the film exists, while preventing
unwanted users from viewing it. All requests are sent to the person indicated
in the box labeled "Requests will be sent to..." who can choose to accept or
simply ignore the request.
-
Private Sharing: Gives you the option to prevent your film from appearing in
search, but allows you to share privately among invited
guests.
-
Disable: Select this option to hide your film completely, even from people
to whom you have already granted viewing rights.
Click on the "Select a file" tab just below to select your file or
drag & drop it into the box. The process may take a few hours: reduce this
window and continue to work, but DO NOT CLOSE IT.
If the upload is stopped for any reason the part of the file
already uploaded is saved and the upload will resume from there. Re-open this
Upload Manager and select the SAME file again. Once the upload is complete
(100%), you can close the window.
The film should be available within the next 24 hours (check its status in the
'Manage your files' tab of the Upload Manager). Now you can modify the film's
viewing rights.
Once uploaded, your film will appear in the Screening Room and in
your film page. You should be able to modify the viewing rights in the "manage
rights and invitations" link (under your full movie player).
3. Send personalized invitations by email for streaming or an mp4 file to burn to DVD
In the Manage Rights and Invitations section, in the right block, you can invite
Cinando members or send a 24-hour invitation to other people by entering their
e-mail addresses. In all cases, your invitee will receive an invitation e-mail,
explaining which invitation it is and the process to follow. You can add a
private message to this e-mail if needed.
You can choose two different invitations:
-
For streaming only: the person will receive an email link and the streaming will be
available from this moment. For Cinando members, the streaming link does not
expire (you can remove access at any time by clicking the
cross icon). For non-members, streaming is limited to 24 hours
from the moment the video is played. If necessary you can reactivate the link by clicking on the lock icon.
-
For streaming + downloading an mp4 file: For Streaming, the same
rules apply as above. In addition, the mp4 invitation is a
paid service that costs 1.20 euros per invitation. You can add
credits in the My Account section.
Please note that you can track your
invitations in the same section. (For mp4/DVD invitations, a status specifies the
process step of your DVD). You are able to delete an invitation if you need to
remove it. If an invitation is removed, the person will not be able to watch or
download the film anymore and the invitation link will disappear:
-
Streaming invitation
-
Streaming + downloadable mp4/DVD to burn :
o
mp4/DVD encoding
o
mp4/DVD ready
o
mp4/DVD error
o
mp4/DVD downloaded
o
mp4/DVD expired
(appears if the mp4/DVD file has not been downloaded within a month)
Do invitations expire?
The mp4/DVD file will be re-encoded and individually watermarked with the
name of the person you are inviting. If you want, add a secret code
that only you will be able to forward to your invitee. The
mp4/DVD will be
available approximately 24 hours after you send the invitation. 24 hours after
the first download, the link becomes inactive and the downloading button
disappears. If the person has not downloaded the mp4/DVD within a month, the link
becomes inactive. For Cinando members, you can revoke
access by deleting a film invitation after any amount of
time your prefer.
What are the viewing reports?
The viewing reports are spreadsheets which gather who watched your
film, when and for how long.
You can access these reports in the film page by clicking the
"viewing reports" link below the full movie player.

STAY INFORMED
SEARCH
How
do I search for information?
Cinando offers you three ways to browse the database: Quick
Search to browse the entire database in every category, Database Finder
to browse for a specific category, and Advanced Search for a
filtered search of a specific category.
1) Quick search:
At the top left of the home page, you will find the Quick Search tab.
Type in a film or browse for a person or company name and the results will be
sorted out by categories.
2) Database Finder:
Database Finder is just below the Quick search tool on the home
page. The autocomplete system will target the result as soon as you are writing
what you are looking for!
3) Advanced Search
Within each tab in the home page (Companies/People/Films), you are
able to use a dedicated advanced search tool. You can choose many filters so to
make your search all the more precise. The "Finder" works as a database finder
tool but within the chosen category.
Search within the database and narrow down your results by adding
criteria. By ticking the boxes below the keywords filter, you can restrict
the keywords search. If you click on 'Reset all filters', it will cancel
all your criteria choices (except the market filter). To know more about a
market filtered search, please visit the "Markets section" below.
You may sort the results of your search by
clicking on the little arrow next to the headings of each column (ex: Company
Name, Activities or Country...). You can also choose to have from 10 to 50
results per page.
The keywords entry restricts your search to the typed word browsed in the following categories:
-
Name, Profile, Objective for a company search
- Company, Name, Job for a people search
-
Title, Company, Synopsis for a film search
You can combine the keywords search with the chosen criteria above (country, language,
etc.).
Don't forget you can create lists from your advanced searches
results (cf. Lists), export results to Excel and be notified on the new entries
matching your results (cf. Notifications)
